Looking for promo tickets of airlines? When you’re buying tickets online, you may notice a Promo Code field at checkout, like with Travelocity. How do you know which promo tickets of airlines are available? And how do you find these?

The links above are one good source for airlines, at least for Travelocity promo tickets. This is a site that is a Travelocity Affiliate, (which means they are authorized to place the Travelocity ads on their website.) Travelocity lets the affiliates know which promotions are current, and supplies all the links for the promo tickets of airlines that Travelocity does business with. (This type of promotion does not generally need a promotion code, but has specific rules regarding the amount of money spent, the number of nights stay, the time of the week, etc.) The other type of promotion for airlines is where a promo code is given for a short duration, and if you find the promo code, and use it on check out, you’ll see the dollar amount of the transaction reduced right away. These you generally have to find from an affiliate, or you may luck out and land on the right page on the website that spells it out. (I suspect that these pages with the promo codes for tickets of airlines are more easily accessed if you’re given the links.)

Cheepairlinetickets are quite the topic of discusion these days. My friend needed to make a last minute reservation the other day and asked me what I use for round trip airfare. I’ve had good luck with Priceline.com but there are a few tricks!

One thing that was of great concern to me was knowing that I could talk to a real customer service rep for Priceline, and I was happy to find out that you can. There are two ways. On the Priceline.com – Home Page if you look at the upper right corner, you’ll see in small type the word “help”. Click on that link on the Priceline.com – Home Page and you’ll be brought to a screen that allows you to send an email, and they’ll answer your question quickly.

When you mouse over the word “help”, you’ll be given a drop down menu with several options – with the self service option for Priceline you can look up your booking information, and probably answer your own question. They have a nice tutorial on all their types of bookings. They try for non stop tickets for you first, and have all the disclaimers easily spelled out.

Lots of people love Priceline for their “Name Your Own Price ®” category. You can get cheep flights and fly any time of day, on any major airline. The Priceline Name Your Own Price also works for cheep hotel rooms where you can stay in any name-brand hotel. The Priceline Name Your Own Price even works when you need a rental car! You can rent a car from any of the top 5 U.S. rental car agencies. It’s for flexible visitors that enter their travel date(s) and offer amount for an airline ticket, hotel room, or rental car. You enter your credit card information with Priceline at the time you make a bid, and it tells you that your card will only be charged if your bid is accepted. It only takes a couple of minutes to find out if your bid has been accepted. If your Name Your Own Price bid is not accepted, Priceline will coach you on how to change your bid so you can try again. It’s fun! There are limitations to how many times you can make a bid in a set period of time, so it’s best to start the process several days to a week (or more) so that if your bid is not accepted you can still allow yourself time to try again.

One thing that’s important to me is having an actual telephone number for the booking agency for cheep airline tickets, Priceline.com Customer Service has a telephone number you can write down and use. If you have an accepted request you can contact Priceline Customer Service at 1-800-774-2354. If you don’t have an accepted request yet, you can fill out the online form and contact them with your question. I just tried that, and sent them an email message at 10:50 am on a Sunday, and asked if I could book one-way airfare. I have not been able to find that anywhere on the site, and it appears to be set up for round trip, so that is the question I chose to ask Priceline about to test their customer service. (Plus, I need to know because my cousin that travels a lot will need tickets back from the mainland to Hawaii soon and asked me to find out!)

My cousin loves to comparison shop for airline tickets, car rentals and hotel rooms. He’s one of those people that has a lot of money because he never spends it! He needs to travel next week to be present for the birth of his twins in California, and he lives in Hawaii…. The twins are not announcing the day they want to be born, so my cousin needs to book last minute airfare, car rental and hotel room… and he asked me where to go to check all the cheap travel links in one place… There are so many! Paris – Dog S@%T Bridge! The Beginning Of The End

Shortly before the end of my first marriage, I knew the exact moment that I knew. Really knew. It was over. The marriage. We were walking from our hotel on the Isle St. Louis across the bridge, probably Pt. Neuf, who knows exactly now. We were snobs back then, and we were on our way to the best restaurant in the world. You know, the one that gives you a postcard with the number of the duck you just ate. They have been keeping track of every duck they’ve ever served, or at least since they started numbering them, since I’m not a snob anymore I don’t know the exact time they started numbering the ducks and lack the initiative to track that small insignificant detail down. Getting back to the name of this post, dog shit bridge, why I was walking in high heels across Paris to save cab-fare to go eat in one of the world’s most expensive restaurants, I have no idea, other than butt-head was a cheap bastard. There, got that out! Took years of therapy to say that! Anyway just saying butthead unlocked that secret memory of the name of the incredibly fabulous restaurant, the only one in Paris that was allowed to keep its’ wine cellar during the German occupation of WWII, La Tour D’Argent, tower of gold? tower of money? Whatever, it was really swanky. Sorry, I digressed. The name of this post. Have to change it here, can’t use the @ because it keeps getting turned into a link, you’ll just have to go with me, I’ll just say it: dog shit bridge. Well in Paris, back then at least, probably now too, everyone and their brother had a dog. And of course they walked their dog. And the dogs pooped. The beautifully coiffed and clothed stood by while their pooch pooped. Right on the sidewalk. Then, ignoring the entire procedure, they sidestepped the pile and left it there. It wasn’t part of the culture to carry a paper towel and plastic bag and just pick it up. They did something else; nothing. So everyone else just had to sidestep the poop. So here I was, walking across the bridge in my painfully chic high heels, and I stepped in a huge pile of poop…. It went up over the tops of my shoes and between my toes. And butt-head laughed. And I had nothing to clean it up with. And I knew then. I would never travel with a man so cheap as to demand walking to a fancy restaurant. Rather pay cab-fare and go to a moderate restaurant. Then I thought I’d never go to Europe with this ignoramus again. This was our third time. Then I thought damn, I’ll just never travel with him again. Then I thought I don’t want to go home with him either. Then, if I don’t want to go home with him, I don’t want to live with him, either. Then if I don’t want to live with him, screw it, the marriage is over. Period. That fast. It was done. Finis.

Oh well so much for the story of the bad marriage to the cheap bastard. That happens all the time. But here’s something you didn’t know – - – - what do they do in Paris with all that crap? I mean really, you can’t believe it, it’s everywhere!!! Or was, anyway, I haven’t been there in awhile, maybe it’s gotten better? Who knows, it’s not something they have in the sophisticated guidebooks, like they’re really going to say “London is a bargain this time of year, plus they have scant scat to step over.” Right. So you just have to discover this type of thing for yourself. Back to the Paris poop problem, they’ve got it handled, or at least they did back then! One morning I was up at the crack of dawn, or probably just before, and I saw an army of uniformed service men, and they were busy dealing with all the crap on the sidewalk. In the gutters there were small spigots to turn on water. The men carried a lot of rags, and made dams in the street along the sidewalk and curb, and turned on the spigots of water and flooded the sidewalks and swept all the poop and other gross stuff off the sidewalks and into the little rivers they’d created. Then they pulled out the rags at one end of the dam, and it whooshed down the drain! That was it! So I guess it’s just the Americans in Paris that have a problem with the poop, for the natives of Paris it’s job security!! Viva la France!

Oh an update… since I remembered the name of the restaurant, I thought I’d link to it, so I looked up their website, which is tourdargent with a dot and a com. I spell it out that way because their legal disclaimer states that I must have written authorization prior to hypertext linking to them. So I sent them an email requesting permission, but since the name of their fancy schmancy restaurant is in the same post with dog poop, I doubt they’ll allow it, and if that’s the case I’ll try to remember where I did link it already, at the top of this post somewhere, and I already did it before I realized I couldn’t. Who ever heard of that anyway? Oh well to add insult to injury I’ll just throw in a vulgar ad here to make things really American: Save up to $325 on European Vacation Packages!

Paris, France – An Almost Good Dinner!

And they say the French have good taste – ha! Not when I was there! Here’s another story for my young son that can’t get enough of my travel stories! I was visiting Jean Michael and Pierre in Paris, returning the visit they had paid me in San Francisco the previous summer. (Long story short we met them when the BART broke down under the Bay, and they were on the way to UC Berkeley where my ex worked at the time – they all bonded and my ex invited them to stay as long as they wanted with us in San Francisco, which they did….) So anyway, back to the almost good dinner. We were invited to their house for dinner, and what we got wasn’t what I expected at all! We made a quick car trip across Paris to the (then only) take out pizza place in the entire city – Mr. Good Fast. (Really, that’s exactly what it was called!) We got take out pizza, and drove all the way across Paris again to get home. Pierre’s sister prepared the meal, and she didn’t know that take out pizza was already cooked. (Like I said there was only this one take out pizza place in all of Paris, so it was kind of an oddity….) So she put the pizza, cardboard box and all, in the oven and “cooked” it. And she cooked spaghetti. When dinner was served, (and by this time at 11pm we were ready to eat anything, starving!) and the pizza was one with the box. Charred. Just cut the pizza, cardboard and all… Well that was a loss so we moved on to the spaghetti. She pulled the noodles out of the boiling water, drained them, and put them on the plate. That was it, just white noodles… Then Pierra asked if we wanted tomatoe sauce, yes! please! sauce de tomate! Alright, here it comes… a bottle of… ketchup! Heinz I believe! Cold, right out of the refrigerator! Plop! right on the noodles! And to top it off, he offered cheese. Well that’s got to be edible, right? He pulled out a plastic box, opened it up, and it was alive with fluffy green and multicolored mold…. Back where I come from we’d have buried that, box and all… Nope – he scraped off the mold and sliced it up! Well, needless to say, it tasted, well….. moldy! So that was my experience with French cuisine! Viva la France!
